The January session of the AUGG (Adobe User Group Geneva) was the first workshop made by the group. Thierry presented us Flex 2.0 by making some nice example (code to come). I presented a fast introduction to AS3 by showing & explaining the code of my Perlin Sound Spectrum Visualizer (example 1, example 2). Here’s the code I presented, it’s slightly different from the two precedent examples.

Warm thanks to the Nomades (specially to Haim) for hosting our meeting 🙂
If you are interested by some more AS3 tutorials, I’ve made a few video tutorial about actionscript 3.0.
Monday at the Nomades (IT school in Geneva), I’ll be giving Photoshop CS2 lessons. It’s already the third time I teach an Adobe technologies. My first time was with Flash, my second time with Premiere Pro and now Photoshop. I feel myself very lucky to be able to change the topic at each time (even if it’s more work). Really if you once got the opportunities to give lessons, don’t hesitate it’s great, and as a student, that I am, it helps pass the frustration to be always the one that learn from others ;p
So if you are in Geneva (Switzerland), speak French, and want to learn Photoshop call the Nomades(+41 22 328 07 70) ASAP.
Video #8 is here!
That time I speak about creating a simple audio spectrum for the right and left channel with Actionscript 3.0. It’s approx. 13 long. As always it’s totally free…

Here is a little Perlin Noise Sound Visualizer…
Simple try to make a MP3 player in AS3… Takes the ID3 soung tags, get the buffer, the sound position and make a small visualizer…
I had a strange call with a new customer who asked me to edit the work of another flash developer that has left without leaving them the fla… I told him that it was crappy to find a good swf to fla decompiler (as I never found a good working one). But I told him that I would find a solution anyway.
In fact the solution was very easy to find: Eltima Flash Decompiler! It works just great and allowed me to make the work in only 1 day. It creates me a nicely made fla with the AS2 code, images, sounds, texts. What do you want more?
The only bad point: it doesn’t work for AS3, but let’s wait that Flash CS3 is release 😉
I’ve just updated as3.metah.ch, with a new video tutorial about the loading of an XML and the search within the Xml with E4x. It’s approx. 13min long.

Enjoy it 😉
I had the luck today, to assist to a presentation from Laurent Haug, the guy behind Lift Conference and coComment. He made a very interesting talk.
LIFT is a gathering of talented observers, explorers, and builders who discuss the current challenges and creative solutions presented by emerging technologies. LIFT is three days to face cutting edge business models, bold predictions, radical thinking, and get new ideas to inject into your own part of the planet.
LIFT has a simple goal: connect people who are passionate about new applications of technology and propel their conversations into the broader world to improve life and work.
I couldn’t afford to go last year but this year I won’t miss it!
The program is incredibly interesting 🙂
If you happen to go to this conference send me a mail (hello AT metah DOT ch) so we can meet there. It is the 7-8-9 February 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland.
A new video tutorial about tracking a mouse when outside the stage with ActionScript 3.0 using Flex 2.0. Useful when using click & drag. This video is about 15min long.
You can watch it here or go to my actionscript 3 tutorials section.
Hope you enjoy it 😉

Actionscript 3.0 allow us to detect easily when the mouse leave the Flash Player, making it possible to avoid strange behavior of our clip. For example during “drag and drop” it can be useful to know when the mouse leave the stage. To do this you just have to use the Mouse Event : mouse_out 😉
Were outHandler is the function called by the listener.
To have the movie work you will need the New Flash Player.
