Yahoo drives more traffic than Google !

Maybe I didn’t keep well informed but for me Google was from far the most visited search engines website. But according to Alexa (a traffic ranking company), Yahoo.com is far more visited than Google.
First Round
Well, it might not be as true as they wanted us to believe. Not that Alexa is working to promote the advertisement engine from Yahoo, but it seems that all Yahoo extension drives to the same domain.
So Yahoo.com = Yahoo.ch + yahoo.it + yahoo.fr + yahoo.n…
But it’s seems that Google.com != google.ch + google.fr + google.n…
Here’s the proof:
Second Round

So I guess we still can say that Google is from far the more visited… Now about pages indexation, I don’t care. Now I use Stumbleupon to find cool website and Del.icio.us to find them back and share them 🙂

Get the north on your mobile without any GPS/LBS

Compass screenshoot
Smart idea from Dana Peters, you can get the north in any localization with your mobile phone (J2ME compatible) without using GPS or LBS. Just by using the position of the Sun or the Moon.

By rotating the phone so that the sun and/or moon icons match their location in the sky, the top of the phone will indicate true north.

I really love the fact of using real environment variable to elaborate other way of mobility.

Apollo: All the resources to start having fun

Apollo New Project
Lynda.com has release a tutorial about Adobe Apollo.
All the basic to make a simple application are explained by Mike Chambers:

Join Mike Chambers, Adobe’s Senior Product Manager for Developer Relations, as he gives an exclusive, hands-on glimpse of the alpha version Apollo: a powerful new development tool from Adobe. Web developers fluent in Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, and Ajax have been promised a smooth transitional tool for building cross-platform desktop and hybrid web/desktop applications, and Mike shows just how Apollo fulfills this promise.

If you got question you can join the apollocoders groups.

If you want some example, codes and tutorial you can give a try to Everything Flex : Apollo Central (by Rich Tretola)

There are already tons of resources on the Net. But I guess it’s a good start to have fun with Apollo. I’m looking forward for some more free time. Or the dream: work Apollo at work 😉

Download Apollo Alpha Now

Apollo Logo
Apollo is the code name for a cross-operating system runtime being developed by Adobe that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax) to build and deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) to the desktop.

Apollo enables developers to create applications that combine the benefits of web applications – network and user connectivity, rich media content, ease of development, and broad reach – with the strengths of desktop applications – application interactions, local resource access, personal settings, powerful functionality, and rich interactive experiences.

    Buzz Monitoring about Adobe Apollo

    Technorati Chart

Here’s a quick post to show the number of post containing “Adobe Apollo”. I post it here because I had already see some chart of Technorati, but never found were it was… (okay maybe it’s obvious but forgive my blindness).
This tool is very useful for marketer but it’s not the only tool that we can use to monitor the result of our web-marketing.
Others free tools usable to monitor buzz :

  • Ice Rocket, it allows us to compare trend
  • Blog Pulse, also compare trends
  • Google Trends, useful for geo-localized trend
  • It’s not so much that I’m a fan a buzz monitoring, but it’s a big part of the thesis that I’m writing, normally in march 30 it will finally be finished! I’ll post a lot more about buzz and web-marketing after this date.

Please if anyone know other free tool to monitor buzz and trends please comment or contact me (top right).

Using gesture as an interface for mobile applications

    lightrider[Via Nokia Blogs]
The WII remote control is giving some fresh idea to some developers, just look at these youTube [1,2].
    That’s a great way to use the Nokia 5500 in-built accelerometers…

[…]My proposition in the whole talk was that using Nintendo and the DS and Wii as an inspiration for attracting a non-traditional gamer audience (although some comments on web relating reports of my talk wrongly assumed I was suggesting phones as a replacement). I believe that accelerometers have an enormous potential for attracting non-gamers[…]

I totally agree with the last sentence :

[…]add these sensors to as many of there devices as possible as having a critical mass of devices in the market will be essential for getting operators to take this seriously[…]

    Actionscript 3 webcast (video-tutorials)

It seems that I won’t have any time to do more video tutorials for a long time (at least 6 month).
So here are all the video I’ve made about my discovery of AS3. I really hope it will be useful to all the beginners in the new actionscript (which can be used in Flash CS3, Flex 2.0 and Apollo).

    helloWorld [1]

    sample hw1

In this first video I’ll show you how to make a simple helloWorld with AS3 (and Flash 9 Public Alpha).

It was my first time making some video tutorials, you’ll hear (and you surely also read) that my English is far from being perfect, but I hope to be understandable 😉
The two first video are the one with the worst quality, I haven’t found any time to remake it.

Apollo: Using the File System API

    Apollo Book
Wondering why I didn’t see it earlier, but there is a free chapter (about the file system API) from the book: Apollo for Adobe Flex Developers. Yes it’s only for the Alpha of Apollo (alpha to be out Mars 16th)
The book is sell as a Developer’s Reference for Apollo’s Alpha Release for Flex developers, but Flasher who already tried the AS3 won’t be lost here.

    I can’t wait to play with it…

    Trends Stats 2.0 in Politics

A graph comparing book sales on computer languages between January 2006 and January 2007 revealed that ActionAcript book represented less than 5% of the market [via O’Reilly Radar].
Let’s compare this stats with a blog analyses, just to see how much blogging and buzz can be taken seriously for a new way of making statistics. I used blogpulse to make a graph comparing the buzz about javascript, actionscript and Java.

    BooksTrends

    Flash Trends

Obviously in this case we can tust blog to see how people react in the real world.
And what if we do politic stat with blog analyses? For example in the French presidential election I compared the big 3 names in no particular order: François Bayrou, Nicolas Sarkozy, Ségolène Royal (sorry for the others …)

    French presidential election Stats
Well what can we see? According to the latest statistic made by ipsos for lepoint the stats extracted from the buzz trends seems correct. These tools are great for ego-surfing but even greater for social statistics.
This year it’s really the beging of presidential election 2.0, the candidates in France and as far as I know also in US are using the web very more agresivly. A funny example, try the website chirac.com, you’ll be surprised 😉
